dangerous design flaw
Stay away, these dumbbells suck. They have a design flaw where the weight adjustment pin gets stuck ALL the time. There's nothing worse than being in the middle of a workout and having to spend 15-20 mins with tools to try and fix an equipment problem. Additionally, even if you are able to get the pin into your desired slot, they may not always grab the weight, meaning the weight plates can fall out when lifted. I've only had these a couple weeks and nearly dropped weights on my toes twice.

I got these because of the low price, but the Bowflex Selecttech 552s I had several years ago were a much better value for not much more money. Because I wouldn't feel right offloading these on someone else (like I said, they're dangerous), I'm going to throw these in the trash and go buy a pair of the Bowflex dumbbells.

Used Them Once, Never Again
I changed the weight successfully a couple of times then somehow I screwed it up pretty badly, I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get it back into some kind of working condition and then I just gave up. Definitely the most difficult and awkward set of adjustable dumbbells I've ever used. I returned them within 2 days.

Update: I got the 52.5 pound Bowflex Adjustables immediately after these. I've had them 11 months and use them about once a week (when I can't make it to the real gym). Changing the weight is easy and fast. I just wish I had more money at the time for the 90 pound bowflexes because chest, back, and french presses are too easy with this weight.
Worth a little extra effort
I've got limited space (and budget) for a full rack of dumbbells, so I went for these instead. I've been using them for years, and they've worked so well I'll never waste all that time and money on going to a gym again. These weights combined with an adjustable incline bench and an exercise bike are all I need for a complete body workout. I also looked at the Bowflex dumbbells, but they were more expensive and quite a bit larger than these, which would bother me.

I think some people who had problems may have given up on these weights a little prematurely (or possibly had defective sets I guess). When I first put mine together they did not work well at all, but I read another review where switching the order of the weights helps. Well, taking about a half hour of trying different combinations did the trick and my weights work fine. Ironmaster Vs. Powerblock from someone who owns BOTH
After years of collecting the old standard hex dumbells, and trying to maintain a home gym in the city in various apartments (usually in the common basement) I found the PowerBlock dumbells. For someone without a dedicated room (with lots of space) for their workout equipment, these are fantastic dumbells. They go up to 85 or 90lbs without the add-on kit, and they are super fast and easy to change the weight. They are pricey, but considering the amount of dumbells they replace, well worth it, for the right user.

After using the PowerBlock setup for a couple years I came across IronMaster, another brand with adjustable dumbells. They go to 75lbs without the add-on kit, and cost a little less than the PowerBlock dumbells. I have BOTH in my home gym now, and I will go over the pros and cons of each for those of you trying to decide on a set up like this.

Tips for the DBs
First off, this is a great product, but I will not spend the time reviewing the great things about this product because I feel there are many other reviews that have already done that. Here are some things I found I thought should be helpful to others:

1) In the "most helpful critical review" it is listed that the rectangular chrome handles are a pain to deal with. This almost compelled me not to buy this product. However, after trying out the DBs, I did not find it much of a bother. The "rectangular" handles are pretty much round with a hint of "rectangulariness" if you will. Not much of a bother to me, but some thick tape cloth should remedy the problem if you have sensitive hands.

2) To those that do not want to buy the $150 stand, I found that instead of picking the DBs off the floor, you can simply make use of the shipping boxes as a custom made stand. Just turn over the Styrofoam and cut off the top lid of the box and place the DB within the box and you...

Great quality product
I've been using the 1090's for a few weeks now. I have a very limited amount of workout space in my apartment so I don't have the room for a full dumbbell set. This set provides 90 lbs for each arm which is more than enough for every exercise that I do. 50 lbs was not enough so I'm glad I bought the 1090's vs. the 1050's.

The 1050's have a nice rubberized handle grip but the 1090's have an all metal grip with a rough texture. I find them less comfortable than the rubberized grip but a little tape takes care of the issue.

The dial selector is very good and is super easy to use. It just takes a couple seconds to dial in the weight you want and off you go. This is a very high quality product and it works very well.

The only drawback I've seen is that the bar is pretty long so you are using a large and long dumbbell even when you only need 10 lbs of weight. I've had some trouble doing double arm curls because the weights hit when I get my arms close...
Best Strength Training Purchase I've Ever Made!!
I'm a certified personal trainer, I've been lifting regularly for nearly a decade and after 3 months with my Selectech 1090 dumbbells I can tell you with absolute certainty they are the best purchase I've ever made to get a stronger, more muscular body.

First off let me tell you why I decided to get them since my motivations will help explain their benefits:

Great for the Money
I'm sure these aren't top of the line weights, but for the set and the rack the price is great. It's a good compliment for anyone doing p90x. The are well packaged. The rack is the rectangular style and easy to assemble. On top of all that the shipping was free through Amazon's super shipping saver. I think the UPS guy wanted to kill me, but maybe he just needed to go to the gym too.

A weight is a weight. These do what they are supposed, and the only thing I could see that was wrong was one of the numbers was stamped blurry. I prefer the hex style dumbbells because they are more comfortable than both the switchable weights (aka. powerblock) and the spin-lock dumbbells. If you have the space, this is the way to go. I just have a few spin locks to do anything over 25lbs.

Great compact set of weights
My wife works out regularly with weights and this set has the 5 to 15lb dumbbells she uses as well as the 20 and 25 I use occasionally and they all fit on a tidy compact rack. The rack fabrication and assembly could be better; we found it impossible to put it together so it would sit flat on the floor and some of the mounting plates were bent, although these straightenend out once bolted. We have the rack on a rug, so the unevenness doesn't matter and it looks straight. The dumbbells themselves are cheaply made, but that doesn't affect much. The grips are textured on the 15, 20 and 25lb weights only. Overall we are very happy with this purchase.
Be warned. This product contains phthalates...bad stuff.

Highly Recomend
I considered buying only the bodysolid dumbbell set of 5-50lbs, but when I stumbled upon this deal for the 3 tier rack and mat I decided it was too good to pass up. My order arrived within 8 days and the delivery driver was good at calling and giving me updates on the shippment. The rack was easy to put together, you may need a socket wrench to help tighten it down. The weights fit good on the rack and the rack doesn't mover around or "wiggle"; it's put together very well. The weights are a very nice rubber material like you would see at most gyms with a chrome knurling bar to hold them together. All in all, it is an excellent product and (in my opinion) deal. The only negative would be that the weights have a slight coating of some sort of chemical/lubricator on them so you may need to wipe them off or let them dry in a room with good circulation for a day or two. terrible odor
The set itself is excellent./ The problem is the horrible odor that permiates from the rubber. I dont know what to do to get rid of it. They are alsoi coated with an oil, so be very carerful where you place the dumbels. Well made and good quality.
Great Dumbbells
I bought this entire set of dumbbells and rack and they have been awesome. What I recommend is that when you get them, immediately take them out of the boxes and let them air out. After a few days, use a vinegar/baking soda solution with water and clean them. When they are dry, let them bake in the sun (if you can do this) for a few days, or put a heating lamp on them (if that works) because the curing from that direct heat will get rid of that rubber smell. Other than that, they are awesome and work great!

Nice inexpensive alternative to the Bowflex SelectTechs and other adjustable models
The Power-Pak 445 (PP445) by Universal (a division of Nautilus) is an adjustable dumbbell set that allows you to adjust the weight of the dumbbells from 4 to 45 pounds in 5lb increments. Traditional dumbbells are expensive. They typically sell for around $1 per pound, and take up a lot of room. If you're at a gym this isn't a problem. If you're working out from home, it is a real pain to store 7 or 8 sets of dumbbells, and bring them out and put them away after a workout. I am a big fan of adjustable dumbbell sets. Not only do you usually save money, but you get a lot more variety which makes your workouts faster and more efficient, and prevent clutter in your house. The only disadvantage to them, is that they're bigger than standard dumbbells, which can limit your range of motion in some exercises, and you can't drop them or be as rough with them as regular weights.

Great weight set at a great price
I was a little worried purchasing these with no reviews, but I took a chance and boy am I happy I did. I was very pleased with the ease of setting up the stand and weights. The weights are very easy to use and switch between the different weight levels. I would highly recommend these for both the price of the stand/weights and for the quality of the product. You won't be disappointed.
For the money, it could be better. But it works OK.
My main concern upon getting this was: Would the weights stay in place on the dumbell as you move? Do you know what I mean? I like a SOLID dumbell. I like the thing to be a solid unit as I move my arm around.
Unfortunately, the weights on these dumbell units do shift back and forth as you use them. A minor annoyance, I suppose, but it irks me. It feels like the weights want to slip off, or something. I don't feel comfortable with that.
Aside from that, I do enjoy them. The dial is a great way to switch weights - a nice big easy to turn dial.
The stand is all right - I like the silver color to it. It looks futuristic. The dumbell weights look cool too - that goofy shape they have is good because if you set them on the ground, they can't roll away.
The stand is all right, but it does feel like it wants to lean/fall forward, just a little. But - it hasn't tipped over (yet).
Assembly is pretty straightforward, and they give you all the tools you need...

great value and quality
I am a personal trainer and I use a 25 pound set of Reebok selectable weights for my in-house training, but I wanted a heavier set for myself. I did a lot of research before purchasing from Bayou Fitness and I have been 100% satisfied with the dumbbells that I received. Good quality, Sharp look, secure and easy weight adjustment. It DOES adjust in 5 pound increments, although the weight is slightly unbalanced when you do so. I do not find this to be a problem, in fact it adds to the muscle confusion that leads to strength gains. I would and have recommended these weights to my clients.

Great for weak-point training.
Although I use a regular gym for lifting weights, I cannot be bothered with spending too much time inside a gym. I do the big lifts in the gym and get out. So I originally bought this adjustable dumbbell a few months ago to use at home to do direct forearm work and some unorthodox moves like Turkish Get-Ups, Serratus Crunches and Saxon Side Bends.

The DB adjusts smoothly. No problems there. But it does have a tendency to "stick" to its plastic base. So I often find myself holding the plastic base down while taking the DB out. No sweat, of course, but still a bit annoying.

Overall, a great value for the price!

I have had 50lb set for over a year. Weights get used 3-4 times a week for P90X workouts. I couldn't be happier with them. I have used other adjustables and this set has them beat by a long shot. Other reviews complain about switching mechanism sticking but all adjustables need to be lined up properly for a quick switch. No complaints here.

Basic but effective
This weight set consists of a regular length hollow bar (which comes in two pieces and you beat together), and two shorter bars. There are also clips to hold the weights on the end of each bar. There are two 20lb plates, four 10lb plates, and four 5lb plates. The plates fit both the longer bar and the shorter bars. The plates are nothing fancy - plastic, filled with concrete most likely, but weights are weights and they work well for me. The clips hold them fairly well (a little looser than a solid bar and actual solid plates (rather than filled plastic) but still effective.

My only complaint (that I overlooked when ordering) is that there are no 2.5lb weights, so in order to go up or down on weight, you have to go a whole 10lbs up or 10lbs down since the smallest weights are 5lbs and you need one on each side to keep it even.

Overall, though, this weight set works well for me. It is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.

Good for the price
These weights are heavy, and I can repeatedly pick them up and put them down. That's about what I was looking for. They cost less than a month's dues for the YMCA for my wife and myself. Since we have a new baby, I wanted somethign to keep me going inbetween visits to the Y. So I'm totally stoked that I could get something heavy to pick up delivered to my house for a totally reasonable price. I got exactly what I paid for and don't regret it.

These are not... oh... qulity weights. The plastic smells funny and reminds me of a toy that you'd buy at the drugstore. The bars have a feel like the metal in the tools that you can buy at Harbor Freight... yeah, it's metal, but some kind of weird, cheap ore that must only be avialable in China. The weights spin on the bars no matter what I do.

But yeah, I'm TOTALLY happy with my cheap, junky weight set, if that makes any sense. Perfect for what I wanted, and I'm glad it's offered. Mine got here in great shape, so...
Good Basic Weight Set
Not overwhelming or spectacular, but for those of us who don't really have a budget to spend big $$$ on resistance training and other exercise equipment, it's good enough to get the job done. Decent weight set
These are decent weights - carry case arrived damaged, it was replaced for us - the weights themselves are solid and easy to handle.

Caveat: a 40 pound set is not much weight - I figured it would be plenty for me as I'm just getting into this, but actually my wife's outgrown them as well.

Thing is, the bar weighs 5 pounds, you get 15 pounds of assorted weight for each of the two bars, total 40 pounds, this allows you to set up from 5 to 20 pound dual dumbbells or a single up to 35 pounds - not quite enough to get there from here.

Plan on adding a few more 5 pounder or 10 pounders to it, is all - they are available separately so no big deal. I've set these bars up with 65 pounds of weights with no problem using 10 pounders.

The bars are good quality and have rubber washers to lock the weights in place.

For some exercises the 14 inch bars get in the way compared to simple hex dumbbells, and it does take a while to change weights...

Pretty much what I expected
It's your basic Chinese-made slide-on dumbbell set. The vendor shipped quickly, and the case arrived undamaged. One of the two bars is about 1/8" longer than the other, making it a little more difficult to insert back into the case. That bar also didn't have the two rubber washers on each end of the handle that the other bar did, making the weight plates harder to snug up and more 'clangy' (is that a word?). Easily fixed with a trip to the hardware store and the purchase of a few 1" ID O-rings. Knocked off one star for my gas costs.

As another reviewer states, having a few more weight plates around is convenient. I bought an extra four 10# plates on sale at the local sports store. Any standard 1" ID plate will work. The total cost of this set plus the extra plates was still less than 1/4 the cost of an adjustable set, and suits my needs just fine.
Average quality, terrible smell
The quality is what you expect. They are your basic set of dumbbells. The carrying case will likely get damaged in shipment. Mine had a dented corner and broken latch.

But the case would be the least of my worries. Like the other reviewer, mine came with an incredibly strong gasoline scent and the bars are covered in this oily slightly sticky... substance. It leaves your hands smelling of gas even after a couple washes.
