Good entry level equipment
OK, I bought a used total gym 3000 for 100.00 a year ago. I have used it on a regular basis ever since. The unit has gotten a little noiser, and is not nearly as easy to put away as they would have you believe. However, it *does* work you out well. It is easy to use, and effective. Maybe the body rail is better (it would be nice to have something wall mounted!) BUT - this is a review of the total gym 3000. I have lost weight, gained muscle and never hurt myself. Does everything it says it will do. Certainly not a ripoff IF you use it.

Great workout, terrible company
I've had one of these for many years now, and use it regularly. Anything that promises to be all things to all people is probably overstating its case. But the Total Gym comes pretty close. There are a lot of exercise machines hyped on late night TV. Most of them are pretty worthless, but the Total Gym works, if you use it. There are still a few things you can do better without it, such as chin ups with a chin up bar, but for most things, you can do the exercise better on the Total Gym. Some of the exercises with the foot attachment are impossible at the highest level because the pulley would need to attach a few feet higher, and the ones where you sit sideways are awkward but certainly doable. Suffice to say that it's an overstatement to say that it's the ideal machine for those. But there are an extremely large number of exercises for which the design is perfect.
The problem with most exercise routines is that people overdo it. They hear that "only 20 minutes" will get...
