Great configuration for a great price
I've had a Stamina Products AeroPilates Reformer in various configurations for a good 15 years now and this particular model with the elevation stand, taller Cardio-Rebounder, wide foot-bar, and all the other accessories is the best you can do without going to a true professional model or more expensive brand like Stott. There is a new 5-cord model available but, from reviews I've read, it has some quality issues that may be worrisome. The stand is not part of its package, nor is the neck pillow, which together would add about $150 to the price. I will state, however, that the newer videos which came out in 2010 are somewhat better than the old ones which came in this package. If someone is interested in an even lower price than this, they may wish to check the Stamina Products website, where refurbished equipment can be purchased, including this same set-up, with free shipping. Needs a little tweaking but I can tell afterward that this is a great workout...
Putting this together was a breeze for me. However, due to my height (5'3"), I had to remove the bumpers at the bottom, which worked out well. I'm glad I did so because I needed the extra washers from the bumpers to add to the top wheels because they were spaced too far inward on the rails and the platform kept falling during rebounding, and I'm not a heavy girl(125). After adding the washers though, it works great. A very solid workout. My abs were killing me for two days after my first use! Not a super quiet ride (the wheels have a small "grumbly" noise as I move up and down), but not so bothersome to the point of annoying. :) I'm using my iPod during workouts now that I have the hang of it and know the pace of the DVD's and I don't hear a thing. I do recommend ordering the additional Aeropilates DVD's offered on Amazon as they are more professionally and more recently made. Cut in Foot Bar Foam
This product arrived with a cut in the foam on the foot bar and the only way to get a new one was to get a whole new machine. Very annoying no one to call and get this one piece replaced.

I think the design is good, but quality control is not
I am satisfied in the fact that I saved over a thousand dollars over the reformer I initially planned to purchase by buying this reformer and considering the price difference I didn't expect perfection. My two star demerit was only due to very bad quality control.

When I constructed it I found out that it would not move smoothly across the rails. The fault could be seen, because one of the rollers was assembled incorrectly, also I found that the band holder had one screw that was to small (probably stripped) to hold it on securely. So, to get it to move smoothly required a small pry bar, a pair of pliers and two socket wrenches a Phillips head screw driver and a trip to the Home Depot for larger screws. If I weren't reasonably comfortable with tools I would have returned it. I am sure that the majority of users aren't middle aged men, trying to rehab, or prevent injury, who happen to have a tool addiction. The average lone female or male user (neither of whom has a...

Horrible!
This is the worst reformer I have ever used. The rollers do not work properly and scrape the rest of the machine. I guess you get what you pay for... Nothing! In fact, my back has been in pain from using this and all other reformers I have used have always made me feel better. It's going in the trash. I hope no one tries to pick it up and take it home as they will end up hurting themselves. Last note: there are pieces that are not welded together properly and it still had plastic in places where it should have been removed before shipping. The manufacturer clearly does not care about a quality product.
all the reformer you need
I just recently purchased this item and couldn't be happier with it. I had knee surgery(I used to be a runner) and in PT my therapist had me perform various exercises to strengthen with a reformer. We were using the ones that cost around $2000 and since this one was easier on the pocketbook I gave it a try. I get a fantastic workout from this and the DVD and workout chart are really helpful. I can feel my knee getting even stronger and see my body leaning out. Definitely worth giving a try! Awesome workout and it's fun!

There aren't as many resistance levels as the other reformers but so far I don't feel I'm doing without to get a leaner build.

Pretty cool, can still stand improvement.
First let me say that I am using this trainer and getting good results. I am reasonably satisfied, considering that I saved a lot of cash compared to the TV celebrity infomercial gym. It is a functional piece of fitness equipment but perhaps I am expecting too much, compared to the dollars I paid, because now I would like to share a few of my quibbles:

The snap hooks which are at the ends of the ropes are plastic. I would feel more secure if they were metal and I may fix this later, myself.

The area where the rails hinge is bumpy to roll over. On some exercises it is of no importance, on others you really notice it. That area needs to be manufactured with more care and precision and/or bigger diameter rollers to help smooth out the ride.

The fixture that holds the rails by means of two pins at adjustable heights on the upright bar is also made of plastic. This piece seems sturdy enough so far, but it is certainly not commercial grade gym...

No Comparison with Total Gym
I owned a informercial Total Gym I bought at a yard sale years ago. I left it with my mom when I moved out of state. I loved it because of the smooth movement and the ease of switching between exercises. The drawback was the lack of fun cardio and being stronger than most of the leg exercises it offered.

When I couldn't find another yard sale specimen -- I only found the cheap retail version -- I decided to look online. For price and features, I decided on the Bayou Pilates and I'm not disappointed.

Everything the Total Gym offered and more. Most importantly though, this machine is so much sturdier, better constructed, detailed and well thought out, there is NO COMPARISION. From the latch, bar and rollers that make the device easy to secure and roll to the heel cushion that comforts situps, the Total Trainer is well designed. What was easy with the Total Gym is effortless with the Total Trainer.

I had been considering buying either a Bowflex or one of the imitation rod trainers for a couple of years. The thing that made me decide to go with this was that I had previous experience with a similar type piece of equipment and always enjoyed the ease of use and simplicity of so many different exercises.
Over the years I have trained at various gyms and at home..using everything from Nautilus, Universal, etc. to cable systems to a variety of free weights and benches.
I always made increases in strength no matter what brand of machines or weights, both at home and going to the gyms so I have to say that whatever way you choose to train is fine but the beauty of this piece of equipment is that it takes up little space, is easy to switch back and forth to many different exercises, doesn't make the clanging of loading plates onto a bar which might be a concern if you want to keep it quiet while you work out.
